Jerry with Cornelia Schewe in a Home Meeting |
The Old Gun Shop

Richardson Ave. - "Before" |

On
a
Saturday night in January of
1995, a group of seven met in the living room of a small block house in
Summerville, SC. Word began to spread
and the weekly meeting grew, as people hungry for something deeper
joined
in.
Eventually, with the strong,
consistent response, it became apparent that God was
building something
special. DayStar Ministries was born on
January 25, 1997. Eventually, the group
out grew the Pastor's home. The
young congregation moved into a building at 109 Holiday
Dr. in Summerville. Affectionately
referred to as “the gun shop”, it had previously
housed a camping and hunting supply store. Growth and
interest continued. Weekends with teachers
and prophetic voices
like Al Houghton, Robin McMillian, Matt Peterson and Steve Thompson
attracted believers from all over the Charleston, SC region. Once
a month, the church worked with the
MorningStar School of Ministry to offer opportunities for ministry to
their
students. It became apparent that the gun
shop was too small for the congregation.

In
August
2000, they leased the
building at 100 W. Richardson Ave. in downtown Summerville. The
storefront had been built as a grocery
store and the 10,000 sq. ft. building needed major
renovations before DayStar could move in. The
congregation took up the challenge. Members
experienced in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and electrical
worked
together. Finally, everything was ready
and the entire congregation celebrated the dedication of their new
home. Members of MorningStar
Ministries' team, as friends and covering of the young ministry, prayed
and
prophesied over them.

Conferences and concerts drew many. The regular exploration and
presentation of the Word of the Lord in Scripture and the passionate pursuit of
the manifest presence of the Lord in worship attracted more. Some came for a while and moved on, while
others identified with the vision of the house and stayed. Growth was
slow, but consistent. Schedules, faces and relationships changed, but the vision always remained the
same. Two congregations in the greater Charleston area were happily birthed out of DayStar.
Then, the town of Summerville purchased the building. April 24, 2005 ended
DayStar's lease on the grocery store and the next Sunday
DayStar gathered in the auditorium of Rollings Middle School of the
Arts. The small, hard theater seats of the old auditorium
were arrange in narrow aisle, making the old auditorium seem cramped.
But the spirits of the fellowship were not quenched. Worship soar
each time the church gathered and the Word of God was proclaimed
boldly. Wednesday evening School of the
Spirit continued in home groups throughout the area.

5 months later, a lease was signed on multiple units in 75
Trolley Rd Center. The leadership saw in the fact that it was not
nearly as big as the
grocery store the potential of the two store fronts
to become a useful & efficient base of operations for the church at
DayStar.
Pray with us as
we
follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in this exciting
mission.
And, keep
watching these pages to hear of the
wonderful works God is doing in and through the fellowship of DayStar
Ministries.
Of
the seven that met for the first time as DayStar in January of 1995, 5 are still very active in the fellowship.
